Hey! I'm Valeria. I'm a 24 year old back-end software engineer and this is my in-construction website. It'll have all manner of software development side-projects, and other displays of my manyfold hobbies. The first one is a Mandlebrot set generator, implemented with socket.io (yes, overkill, but fun!).

Experience

BBC

Systems engineering

DevOps, SRE, CI/CD and automation. My responsibilities include:

  • Continuous integration and deployment in AWS using a variety of services such as EC2, lambdas, S3, CodePipeline and more.
  • Monitoring systems, identifying anomalies and debug active problems.
  • Leveraging observability tools, logs, and metrics to trace issues across a complex architecture of microservices, both on-prem and on-cloud.

Software development

Back-end development, DevOps, CI/CD and data engineering. My responsibilities include:

  • Mantain and develop features for FlowOS Scheduler and FlowOS Live APIs: AI-powered scheduling software used by large UK operators like FirstBus. The software is a series of complex and inter-dependent processes that communicate and coordinate between each other, in real-time and periodically, data-demanding but simultaneously supporting of multiple concurrent users.
  • Our stack uses Google Cloud Services. Stack queues, storage buckets, BigQuery, Pub/Sub, Triggers, Load Balancers and more. On top of this, we use Python, Java, Flask, MongoDB, Postgres, BigQuery, Kubernetes, Docker, Airflow, Ngnix and more.
  • AGILE and TDD, development environment with a focus on robus unit testing, clean and meticulous code. Version control using GitHub.

Software Developer Internship

  • Worked on features for the local government's offical mobile application 'Cabildo de Gran Canaria'. My largest piece of work was weather interface with map interactivity. The app was developed using Ionic and Angular.
  • My first task consisted in automation of HR duties. It involved web scraping using beautiful soup and in-depth use of regex chains.
  • I participated in the development of a traffic detection dashboard using django and YOLOv2 (state of the art object recognition at the time).
